I do agree to the fact that the Western media has overdone the oppression of Muslim women, and that they tend to ignore the fact that there are other women from different backgrounds that cover the same amount of skin…
Yet, all of these women decided to choose to wear conservative clothing. Since when was that oppression? A catholic nun was not raised a nun at birth, nor was an orthodox christian nun, or an orthodox Jew. They all decided, under no pressure at all, to do whatever they wanted that made them feel content about themselves. Just like anyone else.
As for Muslim women, I know many families who force their daughters to wear a hijab at a young age. These girls usually come to school and take it off, and I get that. Even my own father pressured me into doing this, however, it is stated in the Q’uran that this is wrong. The only way a woman can wear a hijab is when she feels it is time to wear one.
